Well it was 2007 Ionia Free Fair last week. Typically I always go for a couple days and see the same ol, same ol. You know what I mean, you pay $5 to park, walk in, buy a corn dog, walk around and try to find anyone with more than one tooth, go to the beer tent, then go watch the truck and tractor pulls, back to the midway, buy a polish dog on a home made bun, then back to the beer tent, then typically you bored to death so you head home.
This year I decided to mix it up a bit....No corn dog, I bought PIZZA and it was awesome. I didn't walk around much, but I did actually walk through the barns and some of the exhibits. Do you all realize how much time and money these folks put into this fair? It's amazing. We went to the 4 & 6 hitch Draft Horse Wagon pull, VERY impressive, then onto the Draft Horse Pulls. I never dreamed that two horses
could pull a sled with 9,000 lbs inside it

, VERY impressive. We hung out at the Blacksmith show and the Antique Village, awesome assortment of Ionia County farm tools and vintage Ionia Free Fair pictures, I especially liked the daredevil show put on in the 1920's with cars and motorcyles. We enjoyed the antique wreckers, trucks, cars and horse drawn carriages. We went to the African peting zoo and saw a turtle than was 135 years old..........he didn't move much. Anyways the Fair had alot more to offer than Harley Girls in tight see through shirts and tractors with 6 supercharged engines
