A state of the art Ethanol plant is to be built in Orleans County, the first of its kind in New York State. The plant will be built on a 144-acre site in the Town of Shelby and cost nearly 90-million dollars. Construction is expected to begin this summer and the plant could begin production in early 2008. Officials said the plant would create 58 new jobs. It would also provide a new market for local corn growers.

News of the corn-to-fuel plant was still over-shadowed in Orleans County by the closing of the Bernz-o-matic company. They announced on Friday the plant is closing and will be moved to China. 300 jobs will be lost in that move. Existing Bernz-o-matic employees will be expected to train the Chinese workers who will be taking their jobs.

This was in our local paper this morning in Batavia!

We've become such a lazy nation that it's easier to let other's do what we don't want to do and now it's going to come back and bite us in the a**!

I'm not sure this is the case here Shannon... Our production jobs can be done much cheaper not nessesarily the same quality but much cheaper elsewhere as we are a rich nation... Companies are making the decision, right or wrong to go the these places to have it done cheaper...

No we have "unions" that require such high wages for jobs that require little or no brain cells, that is why parts can't be made here in the US as cheap as Mexico or China! If we could get wages within reason for those on welfare to take these jobs we wouldn't have the problem of jobs we can do leaving the states!

Oh boy, bet I just opened a can of worms

The wages are one thing....the biggest problem are the benifits......Paid days off.......Amount of sick days...... Drug/Alcohal Rehab......other country's don't have that problem.......they love there jobs..... they're on time and work their butts off.......The argument is they work for $2.50 an hour.......well if you can buy a nice house for $12,000 and it costs you $50 a week to live why not work for that much............Earlier this year I was offered a job in LA.......My wife says why don't you take it......well I'd have to live in a POS Neighborhood out there.....the $$$ sounded great only if it was here.....thats no different then shipping jobs overseas....... As an employer I can't find good people to work (that want to work) Thats why I have retired guys.....I don't have to kiss there butt to work.....they know the job....they're on time.......they don't give me any chit.....plus they love racing

I say Nuke 'em! Makes jobs for Nuke builders, pilots, missle builders, Uranium miners, truck drivers, etc. We can practice on the Iranians.
