A good buddy of mine and fellow Nova racer Jay Crawford crashed last Friday night at our local weekly Outlaw 10.5 race. He is known for pulling big wheelstands. Well it finally caught up with him and he was flown to Shock Trauma. I was there and saw the crash happen from the starting line and helped in getting him extracted from the car.

To his credit he is home recovering as of yesterday with a plate and screws in his right arm, a pin in his left ring finger, bruised lungs, cracked ribs and a sprained ankle.

His safety equipment did the job of keeping him alive.

He will not be racing anytime soon the car is totalled but he is still with us. After this ordeal I have reconsidered how some things have been done in my Nova and Camaro.

Everytime I look at the photos then it hits me just how bad the crash really was.

Be sure to tell Jay that we are all glad he will recover. You mentioned Big Wheelie, Is this the result of a wheel stand or was there another cause? Loud

Yes he was in a bumper dragging wheelie when for some goofy reason the car made a move to the right and into the right lane.

He saw that he was heading for the 330ft lights and swerved to miss them and that was when he hit the grass and it was over at that point.

He tried to power out of the grass and cut the wheel but headed directly to the guardrail...note the way the car shifted to the passenger side. The car actually started to ooze over the guardrail he hit it so hard. In the video it doesn't look as bad as the pictures after.

I will let him know that you all have sent your well wishes. He is moving around a little better yesterday.

He and his wife have a website with a BBS Street-Freaks.com Stop by and see what we are doing in our neck of the woods.
