HERE IS MY TAKE ON SPORTSMAN DRAG RACING

IF THE BOTTOMS FALLS OUTTA THE ECONOMY AND IT JUST MIGHT HAPPEN THE TRAVELING STREET CAR RACING ASSOCIATIONS ARE DEAD MEAT. MOST LIKELY THE NHRA PRO STUFF MIGHT SURVIVE BUT WHAT WE DO (THIS USED TO BE FOR FUN) WILL BE DEAD. THINK I AM KIDDING, LOL THINK AGAIN CAUSE ALL THE TOYS WE HAVE WILL SIT IN THE GARAGE TILL THEY ROT IN HELL AND WE STRUGGLE TO KEEP OUR HEADS ABOVE WATER AND KEEP OUR HOMES.
SO ALL THIS COMES FROM PEOPLE WHINNING ABOUT WINING AND THE MONEY THEY MAKE OR DONT MAKE AT THIS SPORT. THINK ABOUT YOUR 50 GRAND + HOT ROD SITTING WITH THOSE NEW SLICKS YOU BOUGHT AND THEY ROT CAUSE ALL THE STUFF YOU THOUGHT WAS FUN IS ALL GONE. WHINE WHINE WHINE TILL YOU CANT CRY ANY MORE TEARS AND THEN THINK ALL THIS STARTED CAUSE IT WAS FUN TO DO AND SOME WHERE ALONG THE LINE YOU LOST SIGHT OF THE REALLY COOL THING ABOUT DRAG RACING, IT USED TO BE FUN. WE SEEM TO FORGET HOW WE STARTED HUH.

Bill There's alot of truth in what your saying. I don't think it's any one thing. The economy is playing a part in what is going on with our way of racing. Another issue though is what we have created . We started this fastest steet car thing and in the begining it was a relatively low buck form of racing that most people could afford to run as a (sportsman ) type of racer. Now however it is a million dollar or more type of " business" for some. Don't get me wrong ! This is what WE CREATED! by constantly pushing the envolope for faster cars, more recognition, more press, more money , more sponsers, more more more!
Now however we have pushed our sport beyond what most normal people can afford to be competitive in.
Don't get me wrong! I'm not complaining. Just giving my perspective. Which is . I'm looking at spending roughly 1/2 of my monthly income to go to a race. With the real possibility of making only half or third of that in winnings. Do I do this to make money? NO! But can I continue to do this financially? I'm afraid not.

at times but not all the time i guess i get kinda pissed when i see all the shit about cheating and then the folks around here all bad mouth bracket racing. hell bring your friggn 100,000 dollar car against my 10 second chevelle, you can cheat, run 14 power adders i dont give a fu and run 4 sec ets but dude you better do it each and every run cause i can run my et each and every time, and take the heads up stuff and shove it.
have your classses and have your rules and keep the cheaters cause in bracket racing it wont matter one bit.
jimmy this isnt about you. yeah i need my meds right now also.

i got a little pissed about what happened at the pro event, all this heads up stuff is very cool till this crap comes into play and then its time for me to rethink bracket racing, its a good thing as far as i am concerned and it pays fairly good to boot. either you run the number or you loose no one gives a hoot about what you have under the hood.

I hear ya Bill, The BS is killing me, I just got off the phone and heard even more BS, this time in S/S, LOL. I won't pass on the information I was told, I'm sick and tired of it. Like I said a couple times, these clowns need to just go have fun and forget about the racer politics, it's really getting out of hand in my opinion. I've been wrenching on three of the quickest cars in the country for the past 3 years in NMCA and NSCA competition. I love it. I'm building a car for it, it's a few hours from being finished, by heart is with these series, if it all ended...... I wouldn't know what to do.

My goodness, I am so lucky, It just so happens that the track I race at has, Heads up & Bracket racing, I simply race in S/S on saturday night and wake up the next morning in my old whipped motorhome with my family. BS with racers and bracket race all day. Money HUH!!! Drag racing rules, Weather it is heads up on a .400 tree or bracket racing on a .500 tree. You better be on your game, cause I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

RIGHT AFTER I POSTED THIS AND HE GOT BACK TO ME YESTERDAY ABOUT IT ALL.
HE SAID NO ONE WAS CHEATING IS WAS MORE LIKE A MISS INTERPUTATION (SP) OF THE RULES.
I BELIEVE WHAT BOB TOLD ME, BUT AS YOU ALL KNOW WE CAN GO TO GREAT LENGTHS IN HOW WE AS RACERS CAN MAKE THE RULES SEEM A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IS IN PRINT.
I'LL STICK WITH BRACKET RACING.

Bill the Malibu is a 78, When I picked it up, it was rotting under a bunch of pine trees. Took it home and emptied it out and put a set of SSM bars and a A body 12 bolt with a 355 and a th 350. That was 3 yrs ago. It now belongs to my friend and racing partner, We built a 462 bbc and a glide and 4.10 gears, Car is now back halfed with 39X13MT runs 10.30 at 130mph. Todd is planning on All glass front end and doors in the future along with a new 540. Every part of this car Todd and I guilt other than the glide. We have several Sponsors that have been supporting us from the start. Without the $$$$$$$ they provide it would be tuff to race every weekend as we try to do here in Mid Michigan. Later John

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I GOT A 79 4 DOOR BU THAT IS MY NEXT PROJECT. GOT A 400 SB OR A 454 I COULD STICK IN IT ALSO BUT MOSTLY LIKELY WILL DO THE 400 IN THE BU
THESE CARS ARE ABOUT THE ONLY THING LEFT THAT IS FAIRLY CHEAP TO BUILD ANY MORE. COOL CAR AND THANKS FOR THE INFO.

OH OK ONE QUESTION FOR YOU, HOW DOES THE CAR LEAVE WITH THE BB IN IT, DOES THIS MAKE THE CAR NOSE HEAVY???
