head gasket problems

I run a small block mopar with aluminum heads, A sportsman fogger and 5/8 head studs...I am torqing my heads to 70 ft pounds...When I hit the nitrous hard it pops a head gasket...I think that I am just not torqing the heads down hard enough to strech the studs but I am not sure..

I think that your problem falls in the 'notenoughnitrous' category. I believe if you would up the nitrous shot about 100hp that the extra cool nitrous entering the chamber would cause the head and block to shrink just enough to seal tighter, in turn you would not be blowing head gaskets............give it a shot.......I will even ride with you when you try it.

Been a while since I've been a gear head, but are your heads/gaskets O-Ringed? Back in the days of the mustang, that was 1 way to cure that little problem

Ya I would love to O-ring the motor but dont want to pull it out of the car and pull it down...Trying to find a fix for in the car,

the gasket being blow out?? What type of gasket are you using??? When the motor was assembled were the block and heads checked for warpage or flatness???

Yes the block was decked and the heads were milled, so everything is ok there...I use the fel-pro perma torque head gaskets..... The first time it blew # 4 & 6 in to the lifter valley and the second time it blew # 2 into the lifter valley also...It looked like a train with all the blowby pushing my oil out the breathers..I think I will just try torqing them a little bit harder and possibly invest in a stretch gauge...Any suggestions??? What hp level are you spraying and how much timing are you taking out? Are you sure the timing is coming out? I found no difference between 70 and 90 lbs of torque on the head studs as far as keeping gaskets in the motor. One person I talked to said to try a cometic gasket!!!! Let me know, Kevin

I am srpaying 180 worth of bottle and I take out 6 deg of timing...I run a digital6 (MSD) wich takes the timing out as soon as it is activated....last time I checked it was working....

What are these other gaskets about...what are they made of...where can I get a set?? Thank you for your help, Travis?

No the plugs look great.......Just a little oil fauled on the cylinders that go....But before the run they look awsome.....

Can you use copper head gaskets without the block being o-ringed?

Ya I think so....In the newest JEGS on page. #64 they just introduced a new copper head gasket made by titan, looks and sounds pretty trick, I might give those a try......but I think they are 129.99 each. :idiote:
