did you go through the body to the frame or weld 6x6 plates onto the body & weld the bars to it? if he gets rid of those seats he will lose 100Lbs each. LOL. Very nice!!!! Bob |

I cut out 4x4 squares with the plasma cutter built stands to weld to the frame, then welded the roll-bar to the stands, then welded the 4x4 squares back in with cut outs around the tube. As for the seats, trust me after trial fitting the seats about 10 times my back was DONE !!!!!! |

I started doing this a long time ago. I did a 1987 Cutlass this way back in 1996. It is so much easier than trying to fit the tubing to the frame. Build (4) of these weld them to the frame then weld the cage to the stands. Scott Williams Chassis builder did the same thing on his '65. They turned out real nice. I also did it like this on a buddies 1970 Chevelle. |

You use 1/4" plate or something to build the stands?? did you build the stands, then slide them down the hole & weld them to the frame from below??? thanks mucho, Bob |

I pre-made the stands on the tig table. I made the hole large enough to fit the mig nozzle, then welded them in. If you noticed in the pics I also bent the tube to mate with the stand at a better angle than trying to cut a steep angle on the door bars, easier to weld also. Same with the rear bars. Thanks guys for the props, been doing this for a while now, mostly 9.99 stuff and slower, that hi-tech tube chassis stuff is too involved for trying to do it part time. (too much time from the family). |
