Yes, working for a living sucks, but be very happy you have a job.....all of the other people on this board know but you do not...I have worked for a wallpaper company for 15 years....two weeks ago, they announced in a meeting to all of the management (one of which is me) that they are closing the doors and moving all of the business over to head office in the UK.....That sucks!!
I have lots of skills and am not worried about finding a job, just worried about finding a job that pays what I currently make and that can give me the four weeks of vacation that I have earned while working at this facility for the last 15 years of my life.....I honestly believed I would retire from here....but, NOOOOOO!!!!

I am very sorry to here that. It seems that is the way things are going in this country. I am in manufacturing, most of that is gone or is going from this country. I am a plant manager for a small defense contractor, I am responsible for 57 guys and gals ranging from machining, fabrication, welding, painting, purchasing and quality. I know I should be happy to be working, but having to deal with 57 people and 57 peoples problems can be frustrating at times to say the least. ~ Jason

Your country and mine...I am from Canada....I have Martha Stewart to thank for the demise of my industry, "Use Paint for this", "Stencil That", "Hang this here", "Place that there".....In short, I hate Martha Stewart!
I am a quality manager, health and safety manager, environmental manager but also have qualifications for ISO 9000 (which sucks cause I hate ISO), I am also a website designer, ad designer, co-editor of a magazine, mother of two, and know how to operate pretty much any program thrown in front of me....they call me the IT department at work or Non Work as I call it lately!

Well, at least Martha will be having fun with her stencils and such decorating her cell for the next 6 months.

Oh, and by the way I feel ISO is a joke also. You can have all the processes and procedures in the world, but if you put them in front of clowns what do you have??

It should have been a longer sentence! And, yes, maybe some time with her paints will realize what a boring life she lives in her little paint ridden world!

No offense, but I am kind of perfer paint.

The big thing in manufacturing now is "Lean Manufacturing" and "Six Sigma" both creations by people to create jobs for themselves. What a joke, they should just call it common sense 101 ! But the older I get I keep finding that common sense is not very common. ~ Jason

I feel your pain. Thats why i got out of working for coporations or other businesses and started my own. Might not be a steady paycheck but if something goes wrong i can only blame myself hehe.

Trish, sorry to hear about your job, thats terrible. You bust your butt & stay loyal all those years & thats what it gets you. :(

That is the problem with wallpaper....it had it's day......people are just simply fed up with it's unease of use. That is what we were working on before the plug got yanked.....hang it with ease, wash it with ease, strip it in one pull.....no muss, no fuss....Oh well, Martha got what was coming to her, the company I work for will get what is coming to them too.....
They will find exactly that, that paint is easier to use and they will end up shutting down the facility in the UK too....good for them. What a great business decision....I hope they enjoy their losses in the process. They have to move $40 million dollars worth of equipment to continue processing the product we made here. More power to them! It is gonna cost them about $4 Million to remove ship and reinstall in the UK....happy travels....I hope the container boat doesn't sink!
