Here I thought I would leave Friday for Atco and have the best time ever... Well I just got a call from my son, and he will be leaving for Iraq Friday. A mom's worst nightmare...I am having a very hard time coping with this. So if I am not all happy this weekend please understand... At least I will be with all my friends...

Rita, look at the positive's, he is doing his part to serve his nation, which we all could not be more grateful for! Your son will have the thoughts and prayers of many, many people and he will know that you have the love and support of your friends while he is over there! See you in a few days and keep that chin up hon!

Rita you and your son will be in our thoughts and prayers, I know what I am attaching is out of season and the branch may be different, but the thought is the same and WE Thank Him Very Very Much

Merry Christmas My Friend

Twas the night before Christmas,
he lived all alone
in a one bedroom house
made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney,
with presents to give and to see
just who in this domicile did live.

As I looked all about
a strange sight I did see
no tinsel, no presents,
not even a tree.

No stockings by the fire,
just boots filled with sand
on the wall hung pictures
of a far off land.

With medals and badge,
awards of all kinds
a sobering thought came to my mind.

For this house was different,
unlike any I'd seen
this was the home of a U.S. Marine.

I'd heard stories about them,
I had to see more
so I walked down the hall
and pushed open the door.

There he lay sleeping,
silent and alone
curled up on his bed
in his one bedroom home.

His head was clean shaven,
his weathered face tan
I soon understood.
this was more than a man.

I realized that the families
that I would see this night
owed their lives to these men
who are willing to fight.

In hours, around the nation,
the children would play and grown ups
would celebrate on a bright Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom, all month and all year
because of Marines, like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder how many lie alone
on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.

Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

He must have awoken for I heard a rough voice
Santa don't cry, this life is my choice.

I fight for freedom and I don't ask for more
my life is my God, my Country, and Corps.

As I looked at this guardian so willing to fight
he saluted and said,
"Merry Christmas my friend.
Semper Fi and goodnight."

Rita, may the Good Lord hold you and your son in the hollow of his hand.

God Bless you both

Greetings all,

this is my first time posting here, was referred by a great friend of mine to offer my two cents, and I hope it can put the author of the thread a little at ease.

I have been to Iraq twice, and have made it back twice, it is a lot more calmer there now, than it was in 2003 and 2004. As you know 2003 was the invasion, and 2004 I was there for the first fight into Fallujah, I have been in the Marine Corps for 21 years.

Your son has been properly trained, if not he would not be going so his fellow servicemen obviously have confidence in him, but you are a mother, and it is understandable.

If there is anything anyone can do for you let us all know.

Thanks Kevin,

I just know what she is going through, my old man takes it a little better than my mother did, but she understood, if you were in the service, this could happen, she never went for that though lOL :D

I try to help where I can, and like you said real life experience help's more than what the talking heads put out every night.
