Anybody have a preference for a good powerglide shifter? Please, please, please don't tell me it'll be $1000 . Also, would the shift cable come out from the front or rear? Thanks again for any help.

Most of the guys swear by their Hurst quarter sticks, light, good adjustment and strong as an ox. cable comes with it and just need the additional cover, about 270.00 complete. Most of the cables are 5' long. Also added bonus is the availability of user specific knobs.

I personally do not run a PG. I do agrre with 4mula though. The people I know running PG's use the Hurst 1/4 stick. Hope this helps.

I have a 'glide in my '69 Red Nova, and I use a TCI unit. Unlike the Hurst unit, the TCI can be operated with one hand. You can go thru all gates with one hand on the wheel and one on the shifter. Also light weight, cable exits front I recall. I love it, and bought it used for $50.00 Canadian = $1.67 US. LOL. John

I ran a Biondo powerglide shifter in my Buick Regal. It was a billet aluminum piece that could be set up with electric or air shift. No problems but pricey $369.00 (everything included). Currently I am running the Cheetah shifter in my Mustang (3-speed). I think this is the best bang for the buck, one handed operation, built in trans/linelock button, comes complete for $269.00. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks as usual for all the responses. I'm leaning toward the Hurst 1/4 stick pistol grip with the micro switch. How do you guys activate and or deactivate the trans brake. I was thinking of using an arming switch then holding in the micro switch on the shifter the whole time that I want the trans brake to be on. I know on bracket cars with delay boxes you push the trans brake button to turn on the timer which in turn releases the brake. Does this sound like the correct way to wire the trans brake.

Also I've seen TCI makes flexible corded micro switches you can mount on the steering wheel. I was thinking of mounting one for the trans brake and one for the line lock before I saw the shifters with the built in switches.

The reason I'm asking all these seemingly unrelated questions is because we are trying to finish the interior of the car. We gotta put the dash in and do all the wiring and then put the carpet in. I'd like to not have to take apart any of the interior because we forgot to run wires or something.

I had the transbrake button attached to my steering wheel in my Regal. I never ran a delay box (dont believe in them). It was okay but you need to leave enough slack for raps around the column. Also if you have any stuff on the column (i.e. turn signal gear indicator, ignition switch, etc.) the cord can get caught. Currently on the Mustang I mounted the T-brake on the side of the shifter at a comfortable angle to me. I release the t-brake and then 3 inches away I'm on the shifter. I have also seen alot of guys using the "STICK" a loose handle with the button on the end. You just hold the "STICK" and let go of the button and then drop the "STICK" in you lap or on the floor. Kinda crude but its popular.

I use a Hurst 1/4 stick in My Nova, I bracket race car, so it see's alot of action. It has never failed. Won't go wrong if you choose 1/4 stick.

I got the Hurst 1\4 Stick with pistol grip and micro switch in the handle from Jegs today. It may even fit in the stock console. Thanks for the advice guys.
