A bunch of guys at work are getting new cars. A Hummer H2 was just got by a 22 year old. Another guy who's 30 is buying a $60,000 BMW M3. There's vettes and everything else. it's crazy.

Well, the last 2 months have been good to me in the mortgage business. This after a draught.

If the next 3 months go well like they've been, I'm thinking of getting a not so every day, every day driver.

I'm thinking of a 67 GTO or a 69-71 chevelle. I like those 2 styles. I figure if I can get something nice and reliable for up to $15,000 or so, I'd use it as my every day driver. I'd need to have Air Cond though. ANd I'd want to put a nice stereo in it. I wouldnt want to ruin the old car style, but new seats and a newer dash might even be an option. Just brain storming at this point.

Any suggestions on what I should look for or get? Should I go down south? Should I find a nice body and throw a BBC or something in it? What's going to be the best way to go. I'm not looking for a car to race, but more of an every day driver that happens to be an old school chevy.

If I dont get 1 of those 2, I'm also throwing around the idea of:
First gen Viper: Around $40,000 now
early 90's Lotus Esprit Turbo: Around $30,000
Acura NSX: I HATE Jap cars, but this is sort of an exotic and can get for $25,000

Chris, since your a MOPAR, why not think this way. ASAP you get yourself an SRT-4 or Crossfire as your year around daily driver, other than the truck. Than with the rest of the "budget" get yourself that old car. Buy one done from Duffy's or someplace like that. Get the use out of it right off the bat. PLUS it will go up in value where as all those other car will go down. It's like driving you RRSP instead of leaving it in the bank. I could help look for the older cars, not those new one's.
Just my 2 cents, but thats what I would do, plus old car insurance would be cheaper than those high priced cars. John

Hold out for the classic, you will definately be happier, besides with gas and insurance rates getting higher and higher economically it might be cheaper. My wife almost has me talked into a classic street car, but I keep telling her I need an enclosed trailer first. Somehow I know she will win. Good Luck!

I got another vote in for a MOPAR. Get a 68 Dart with a 340 and have some fun. Them things rock!!! Or you can talk to Hutch and get his Road Runner... You know if he owns it, its gotta be reliable and he didn't take any short cuts doing things. I know he had it forsale on E-bay about a month or 2 ago...

Funny post, i was just thinking the other day how cool it would be to have a 1970 Challenger with a fuel injected crate motor and o.d. trans as a daily driver.

That's what I'm thinking. As my daily drive/tow vehicle, I got my hands on a '70 Ford F100 shortbox. It has the original 240 inline 6 cyl. in it. We have a oldtime factory Ford drag racer in these part by the name of Don Henderson. When I brought it out with the 240 and three on the tree, the motor went south. So he told me to keep the 240 as it tows better than a 302 and gets way better milage than the 300 6cyl. His old tow truck had a 240 in it with over 300,000 miles and still going. I'm now in the process this weekend of getting a AOD automatic trans for it, and all the fuelie 300 6 cyl. stuff will bolt on. Now no hot rod, but a nice clean old truck, with a rebuilt older motor, but updated with fuil injection and O.D. John

All nice cars, Me personally, i'm afraid of the theft factor with the older styles. One of my good friends has a 203 Viper, and he's been in some fast cars. But he says that nothing can catch him on the street as a driver, it's a GTS coupe. Any thoughts on a C5 Vette. A nice anniversary would be cool.

OK Chris, this is what you should do. Find a Chevette in really nice condition. We find a nice little V6 Grand National motor and drop it in there backed by a turbo 400 and a 9" Ford rear. Put a new front mount inner cooler, T63-2 turbo, 43# injectors, a FAST EFI computer, downpipe, and a few other goodies.. Turn the boost up to 22#'s and make changes on the fly for racing and everyday driving. Figure it will be a low 10 second car that gets 22 MPG... :D Them C6 Corvettes would sure love you for that...

lol! I actually just watched a video of a Hyundai beating a new dodge SRT-10 that made me think of your post.

I'm not really a dodge boy. in my years i've owned

87 Mustang GT conv
1979 Trans Am with the screaming chicken on the hood
1985 Ford F150
1987 Buick T-Type (grand national power, but no emblems, same horse this year)
1992 Mustang GT conv
1997 Jeep cherokee
2001 Jeep wrangler
2001 Chrysler 300m
2004 Ram 1500 HEMI

So as you can see, I just like power. Brand isnt really important to me. As long as it's a U.S. brand.

My cousin Jason just got this tonight and I'm seriously thinking of getting a 2000 after driving it tonight. Except maybe a hard top. Are there many differences between a 2000 and a 2004? Looking at Auto Trader you can get a 2000 hard top for $25,000. Much cheaper than a new one where they are $60,000
