I never liked 1/8th mile racing, it just isn't where drag racing came from in my neighborhood. That being said I don't see another solution to the situation that caused Scott's death at Englishtown. On the east coast, at least, there is no room to expand race track to provide adequate shut down and safety for these cars traveling 300+ MPH at the finish line. Englishtown, Atco Cecil County, Maple Grove, Capitol Raceway are all getting heat from the people building and moving in to developments around them. There just isn't room for expansion and also the cost of real estate is prohibitive. I don't like. I'm sure NHRA doesn't like the idea. The racers don't like it, but what's a better solution? These drivers have to be kept safe. |
